RESIDENTS of Kavieng Town have been provided with modern toilet amenities.

The launching last Thursday was officiated by women’s representative and provincial executive council member Philomena Jonah and witnessed by Governor Sir Julius Chan.

The rest rooms contain environmentally-friendly facilities using the evaporative septic systems.

The sanitary equipment are durable with long-term low-maintenance cost.

The rest rooms will have full-time janitors to keep them clean and hygienic.

Sir Julius said he was proud that people from distant villages in Lelet and the West Coast could use the facilities.

He said his government was committed to lifting the values and dignity of the New Ireland people irrespective of whether they voted for his government.

“Today we are all equal. You no longer have to use the bushes or the sea,” he said.

The toilets are located at the Kavieng Market and the sports oval.

The total cost was K350,000.

Similar facilities have been built in Namatanai and plans are underway for rest areas along the Buluminski Highway.
