EDA Ranu, owed K2.3 million by Port Moresby residents, yesterday disconnected supplies to various properties.
The exercise began in the Gordon suburb yesterday and will end today.
Acting general manager Commercial Services Jonathan Maino said they had already identified illegal connections in Gordon.
“We have about 324 disconnections on properties around Gordon,” he said.
“We had disconnected their water over the years and they never came to pay.
“So we assumed that they were getting water illegally.”
Maino said of the 324 properties, 93 were found to be using water illegally.
During investigations, 26 came forward to pay their bills.
He said notices were served and awareness conducted to allow people to sort out their outstanding bills before the disconnection exercise.
“If the tenants want to pay after the disconnection, a fine of K560 will be added onto their bills,” he said.
“It’s better to come forward now and settle your bills to avoid disconnection and fine.”
Maino urged the people using water illegally to pay for the commodity like everyone else.
