MILNE Bay Governor Titus Philemon has challenged educators and leaders to work together to increase the number of students from the province entering tertiary institutions.

Philemon  announced that the provincial government would increase scholarships for tertiary and college students to K1 million from next year.

“As a leader of this province I want to see more of our students entering universities because I want to see sons and daughters of Milne Bay aspiring and reaching greater heights in all fields and professions,” he said.

“I want to see managers and leaders of industry out of our children and not just casuals and labourers.

“We have to rethink our policies and programmes in education at all levels, from elementary to primary to high school and secondary to tertiary.”

He said all stakeholders needed to focus on the issues preventing the interests and dedication of young people from higher learning.

He was speaking during the secondary schools career expo on Monday.
