EGALAUNA won a back-to-back title in the U21 division of the 33rd annual Central netball tournament after defeating Paramana 20-14 at the Rita Flynn Courts on Tuesday
After topping their pools since the tournament started on Sunday, both teams went in to a very tough and physical grand final that raised eyebrows of the immense talent that was shown.
Egalauna went into attack mode from the first whistle and munched away on the scorecard despite being threatened by Paramana’s height.
A very evasive goal shooter Vagi Mari and  goal attacker Vagi Geno clearly outclassed the Paramana defenders Ulea Winnie and Manu Vai  from their attacking grid to bring the score to 11-6 in favour of Egalauna at half time.
Paramana went into the attack in the early stages of the second half with their lofty goal shooter and top point scorer Viuwa Varuma dominating over Egalauna’s goal defence.
However, Egalauna were well-prepared and with the reigning title to their name, they were not about to give the game away that easily.
The girls from Egalauna pick up their form again and seemed never to have back down with witty defence from both goal defence and keeper Vivian Vagi and Joyce Olema topping off by accurate goals shooting from both Mari and Geno who eventually led their team to retain their title by defeating Paramana 20-14 at the final whistle.
Egalauna’s team manager Rai Geno was happy with the team and proud of the girls’ efforts.
He said most of the players in the U21 side were U17 and under and the team should remain intact for next year’s tournament.
In the other junior divisions, Domara took the U10 title, Kalo U13, Paramana U15 while Keapara took the U17 title.
Central Netball Association president Iamo Launa said that things went very well with the 98 teams participating this year.
From the tournament, she said they realised there was a lot of talent shown from the U10 grand final between Saroa and Domara which was  entertaining and exciting with the high standards.
