Maroons die-hard in touch with news

SIXTY-nine-year-old Memafu Haiveta from Iokea village, Gulf, is on a brief visit to Brisbane.
The diehard Maroons and Brisbane Broncos supporter spent the day reading everything he could find about his favourite teams and, of course, the Origin III previews.
The retired teacher arrived in Brisbane last Wednesday ahead of the Origin III, wanting to know everything about the players before they run on the field in Sydney last night.
Back in his village, he said, many of the villagers, including himself, travel by truckloads for about five hours to Port Moresby to watch the Origin games on television every year.
“We love rugby league, it’s a great game to watch,” he said.
Last week, Phil Gould was in Port Moresby and was treated like a hero everywhere he went.
“I hope that my hero, Darren Lockyer will visit Port Moresby one day,” he mused.
He was devastated when the Broncos lost to West Tigers 16-14 last Friday night but he was comforted by the fact that, they lost because all their heavies are on Origin duties and will be back to lift the team this  weekend.
