A FATHER of four drowned on Monday while trying to cross a flooded river on the border of Henganofi and Unggai-Bena in Eastern Highlands.
Kopsy Binefa, 38, was crossing the river from his village to go to his garden on the other side when strong currents triggered by continuous rains in the area swept him away.
The drowning was seen by his four young children and other members of the family.
They reportedly had begged their father not to cross the river but he went ahead.
A fellow villager said they were searching the banks of the river for his body.
The incident had been reported to police and authorities in Henganofi district are helping in the search.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Supt John Kale is yet to be briefed on the incident.
