Election delaying court cases

A 19-YEAR-OLD man is facing robbery charges at Waigani Committal Court for allegedly robbing the daughter of a police officer in June at Waigani in Port Moresby.
Stanley Solo, from Fauta village, Komo-Margarima in Hela, was charged with one count of armed robbery and stealing.
Police Prosecutor Peter Samghy told the court that they had problems with bringing suspects that were in custody to court because of confusion caused by the election.
“Most of the police prosecutors were involved in the election security operations and it has affected the court since July,” he said.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura adjourned the case for a month until everything returned to normal so that those in custody could be brought in for their court hearing.
It was alleged that on June 5, 2022, Solo and his two accomplices used a kitchen knife to threaten Yambeso Kivia and took away her bilum containing her BSP card, NID card and her Samsung Galaxy phone worth K399 along with K300 cash at Waigani Drive in Port Moresby.
Solo took the bilum while his two accomplices pushed Kivia away and they escaped to a drain.
Kivia raised the alarm and some street sellers chased after the suspects.
