The 2019 PNG Electrification Partnership Plan will go to Cabinet for approval, PNG Power Ltd acting managing director Carolyn Blacklock says.
The programme, which was recently commissioned in Okapa, Eastern Highlands, will be put through cabinet.
Australian High Commissioner Bruce Davis, Japanese Ambassador Satoshi Nakajima, New Zealand High Commissioner Sue Mackwell and US Ambassador Catherine Ebert-Gray travelled with O’Neill to witness the outcome of an agreement signed by leaders of the four nations during the Apec Leaders’ Summit in November in Port Moresby.
Blacklock said construction had already started in Okapa and a number of projects throughout the country.
She said the company would carry out about 40,000 new connections this year as part of the rural electrification programme.
PNG Power recently gave K1 million to local contractor Aguila Automotive to carry out connections from Walium to Usino in Usino-Bundi district of Madang.
It was the first power supply project in the district.
