A MEMBER of the Morobe Weightlifting and Powerlifting Association is on his way to Melbourne, Australia, to attend a coaching course/training and to take part in the Australian Open Championship.
Brown Bolong, from Boana, Morobe, has represented the country in powerlifting and is backed by his employer, Niugini Tablebirds.
The company has been supportive by sponsoring him to attend the Oceania Championship in Townsville (2006), South Pacific Games in Samoa (2007), SPG in New Caledonia (2011), 5th PNG Games (2012) and now the Australian Championship.
The call to take part came from the office of PNG Powerlifting Federation after they received an invitation to take part in the G4G Priority Event Preparation Programme.
The 39-year-old, who switched in the late 1990s from soccer to powerlifting, will compete in the 66kg class for the championship that will be staged at the Arrow Hotel, in Melbourne, from March 22-24 after a coaching and training course.
The coaching course is provided by NACAS expert David Jame at the University of Melbourne and will run from March 14-21 and cover:
l    Roles and responsibilities of coach;
l    Physical conditioning of athletes;
l    Skills learning and psychological conditioning;
