AFL Port Moresby will have three new teams taking part in this year’s BSP premiership challenge.
The new teams are Taurama Suns comprising players from the newly-established Taurama Valley suburb and 2PIR army barracks, Central Bombers from Gereka and Kalo villages, Gulf (Isapeas) Giants from Kaugere, Sabama, Kilakila, Vabukori and Taikone.
The Central Bombers will be taken care of by former champion full forward and ruckman Overa Gibson and Pepe Kila, while former Lae-based AFL development officer Connie Papau will prop up the Suns.
Peter Milaura, who was plucked out of Kerema to be the Mosquitoes stalwart, will mentor the Gulf Isapeas with the help of his former mentor and ex-Kerema AFL development officer, Peter Mangaea.
The Isapeas will be donning the Greater Western Sydney Giants colours, while Taurama will wear the Gold Coast Suns colours and the Bombers with the Essendon Bombers outfit.
Legendary champions, Koboni Demons from Hood Lagoon villages, who were spectators last year have been re-admitted into this year’s competition, making it a 10-team challenge from last year’s six.
The teams that contested the premiership last year were Moore Printing University Tigers (reigning premiers), Remington Gordon Kokofas (runner-up), Hitron Bomana Cats, SP Brewery Defence, Lamana Dockers and Gerehu Magpies.
While Tigers, Kokofas, Cats and Defence have retained their sponsors, City Pharmacy Ltd has been secured for Magpies through the AFL PNG advisory board headed by BSP chief executive officer, Ian Clyne.
The board has struck up sponsorship deals from Moni Plus for Suns, Kwila Insurance for  Giants, Kenmore for Bombers and Grafitti Signs for Demons.
