THE East New Britain government’s focus next year and beyond is to empower its wards in order to improve livelihoods, Governor Nakikus Konga says.
Konga said the focus needed to be on empowering the sub national levels and his administration would seek help to improve the people’s livelihoods.
Konga said the provincial executive council had approved the separation of amalgamated local level governments in the province for effective and equitable economic advancement and service delivery.
He said the provincial government had signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Fisheries Authority to re-establish its facilities in the province with the opening of one of its renovated fisheries storage facilities in Kokopo and the formal handover of a waterfront facility in Rabaul.
Konga said the provincial government had also partnered a tourism organisation, Asia Pacific, based in Shenzhen, China.
But he said the tourism project was shelved due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Konga urged the people to celebrate the festive season in a meaningful way and reflect on their faith, values and beliefs, and to work for a better community, province and country.
