FORMER East New Britain (ENB) premier Sir Ronald ToVue of Rabaul passed away on Christmas Day in Port Moresby after battling a long illness.
Gazelle MP Jelta Wong said the province had lost another prominent leader who had contributed immensely to the province.
Late Sir Ronald, 88, of Ratavul village, was a former chairman for the ENB health authority, a member of the Rabaul development authority board, and was instrumental in the province’s quest for autonomy.
Wong said Sir Ronald was among pioneer leaders such as Sir Rabbie Namaliu, Martin ToVadek, Vin ToBaining, Oscar Tammur, Damien Kereku and the late Sir Henry ToRobert, Sir Paulias Matane and Sir John Kaputin who worked hard to build their province.
“He (Sir Ronald) was a real mentor and never turned away anybody,” he said. “Leaders of today must have time to consult with our former leaders who were devoted to the advancement of this province.”
