ENB police arrest, charge juveniles with rape

POLICE in East New Britain (ENB) have arrested and charged two juveniles for sexual penetration and rape.
The two are now in custody at Kerevat Police Station and are expected to appear before the Kerevat District Court on Friday.
One of the alleged offender is a grade nine student at George Brown Secondary School.
According to the brief received from police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali, the incident occurred last Tuesday between 7pm and 8pm in Kerevat town.
Chief Insp Tabali said the victim, who is a 13-year-old girl from Kuraip ward in the Reimber-Livuan local level government of Gazelle, was allegedly raped by four suspects.
He said the other two suspects were still at large.
Chief Insp Tabali said the oldest suspect was 17 years old and the youngest was 14 years old.
He said the victim had accompanied her aunt to Kerevat and around 4pm, the aunt left her and went to Vudal block on a public motor vehicle.
“The victim was left alone in front of Hongland Supermarket until all the businesses were closed, and while sitting there, the 17-year-old suspect approached her and dragged her into the nearby bushes and raped her,” Chief Insp Tabali said.
Police alleged that after raping the victim, the suspect ran to the nearby area and invited three other suspects who took turns raping the victim.
The four suspects also stole money and perfume from the victim.
Chief Insp Tabali said the victim managed to escape and spent the rest of the night in front of Hongland Supermarket.
“With the help of security guards, she was able to report the matter to the Kerevat police and the police went to the crime scene where they arrested the two suspects,” he said.
He said the other two suspects’ identities were known and police were looking for them.
Chief Insp Tabali appealed to the parents of the two suspects to bring them to the Kerevat Police Station immediately.
