ENGA Mioks are determined to kick off their campaign with a win over Mendi Muruks as they look to go deeper into the finals of the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
The Enga government-sponsored Mioks sneaked into the top-six 2020 playoffs, but were knocked out by eventual champions Hela Wigmen in the first week of the finals. Ahead of Sunday’s Lae Rugby League Ground opener (1pm kick-off), Mioks captain Sani Lipu told The National that the side had been bolstered by the appointment of Andiki Andrew as head coach.
He said the match against the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored Muruks would give them an indication of how far they had come with their pre-season preparations.
“Our pre-season camp has been positive over the two months,” Lipu said.
“Andrew’s arrival towards the end of last season has lifted our confidence. Andrew has helped the players stay connected as a unit.
“There are a good number of new players who have come from within the province. They have blended in well with our senior players.
“Kennedy Ben, Ase Gima and Kot Kerowa will be leading our youngsters, so I am confident that it will be a good season for the Mioks.”
