Enga picked to pioneer cultural project

TOURISM, Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur has declared Enga the pilot province for the integration of culture into the formal education system and announced a K100,000 funding to kickstart the project.
He made the announcement in Wabag on Sunday when he closed the three-day annual Enga Cultural Show.
Tammur said he picked Enga because it had an active cultural education programme and “most importantly being the single largest language group in PNG”.
He said the K100,000 would be used by the National Cultural Commission, the Education Department and the Enga government to establish a working group to explore opportunities and advise his ministry.
“Many countries around the world, including our Melanesian countries in the Pacific, are developing or renewing their cultural strategies and policies with a view to maximising the individual, social and economic benefits inherent in culture.
