THE PNG Defence Force Maritime Element is undergoing an exercise to identify challenges that need to be addressed before the Apec Leaders Summit.
Chief of force preparation Col Siale Diro said this during opening of the two-week Exercise Paradise 2018 that began in Port Moresby yesterday.
“We have tasked the PNGDF Maritime Element to provide reports on the exercise … particularly for the types of tasks that we will be required to do with the support from police during the Apec leaders’ summit in November,” he said.
Diro said the training would involve naval officers from Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand and Timor Leste.
He said November’s summit would be cruise liners moored off Port Moresby as accommodation facilities and security was therefore required.
