THE civil engineering students of the National Polytechnic Institute of PNG in Lae, Morobe, have trialed a new concrete product that is set to be a lot cheaper and quicker.
The product, concrete canvas (CC), is a new product from Markham Culverts which the 25 second-year stage four students used to construct a drain near their school.
The students, including two females, did a presentation on the progress of the project to the management of Markham Culverts.
They said using CC was much faster and cheaper than concrete.
Student, Frank Aino, thanked Markham Culverts for allowing them to trial the new product and thanked the institute’s administration for funding the project.
“Concrete canvas is a new product introduced and now that we have tried it, it will have an impact on us once we are out in the field,” Aino said.
“CC is easy to install, takes less time, convenient and cheaper than constructing and pouring concrete.”
Aino said conventional concrete construction was time-consuming.
