POLICE in Manus have arrested a 22-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing to death another woman, also aged 22, last Friday.
Manus commander Chief Insp David Yapu said the murder suspect from Rambutso Island confronted and stabbed the woman from Pobuma local level government as she was walking home from Manus Training Centre.
“The murder suspect is expected to appear in the Lorengau Committal Court soon,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu urged relatives of the deceased to refrain from causing more problems.
“Allow the court process to take its course,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu said the murder suspect attacked her victim with a small knife, injuring and killing her with wounds on her head, left hand and left side below her breast.
“She was rushed to Lorengau General Hospital but died on arrival due to loss of blood,” he said.
Upon hearing the news, her (deceased) relatives turned up in large numbers and fronted the police station last Saturday to demand the release of the suspect from the police lockup so that they could kill her.
“Police put up strong resistance and prevented them from entering the police station to release the suspect,” Chief Insp Yapu told them.
“Do not take the law into your hands or you too will be arrested.”
In another case, Chief Insp Yapu said a 27-year-old man from Rambutso Island was arrested and charged with molesting a 14-year-old grade 5 schoolgirl.
He said the schoolgirl was sleeping in her room when the suspect entered and fondled with her private parts.
The suspect was arrested after the schoolgirl’s relatives lodged a police report.
