THERE are some teachers colleges which are yet to get approval to operate but are already enrolling students, says Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
He warned parents and students to make sure that they enrolled only in recognised colleges “to save their time and money”.
“There are number of teachers colleges that have not received approval (but) have been enrolling students and promising them that they will be certified and become teachers in the education system,” he said.
Dr Kombra said the department had frequently publicised of the list of registered teachers colleges in the country
“Those that not have been approved are not on the list. So parents should not send their children to any college not on the list,” he said.
Dr Kombra said the department had very strict standards for every college to meet to be registered as a teacher training institution.
“There are a number of teacher training institutions who have attempted to get themselves registered but in most cases have not met the minimum requirements,” he said.
“For example, they must have the infrastructure required for teachers to be trained.”
