VICTIMS of domestic violence need to be medically examined after they lodged their complaints with police, according to a counsellor.
PNG Counselling and Consultation Services director Allan Tagai told police officers during a domestic abuse awareness training that they must ensure women who registered their complains must get a medical check-up.
“Make sure they go for check up.
“Many women who suffer domestic violence mainly physical abuse must seek medical examination at the hospital,” he said.
“They have to do that because they do not know what will go wrong with them. You can have your arm smashed and you just put ice on it without knowing it is a fracture.
“When you lift a bucket then you start feeling the pain. By that time you cannot do anything because the damage is already done.”
Tagai said women must understand that they are the ones who look after the children and not the men so they must be fit and healthy.
“If the mother is mentality, socially and psychologically affected because of continuous violence, she will not be in a good state of mind to teach the child.”
