CHINA’s ambassador Li Ruiyou has congratulated Tropicana Limited for opening a big supermarket in East New Britain.
He opened the supermarket with Governor Ereman ToBaining Jr, Archbishop Francesco Panfilo and owners John and Sandra Lau.
“This fantastic building is a great success for the Lau family, and the people of this province,” Ruiyou said.
“Tropicana has become a big name.
“It is highly recognised in PNG, China and other countries.
“From my observation, Tropicana’s success is due to the relationship between the locals and the Lau family.
“The family through Tropicana is always ready to help the locals in every way possible.
“I believe that through the opening of this supermarket, cooperation and friendship will be strengthened between Papua New Guinea and China.”
Ruiyou also thanked the ENB government for looking after the Chinese community.
“Rabaul was the first place to accommodate Chinese immigrants,” he said.
“You have taken care of Chinese people long before the volcanic eruption in 1994.
“You deserve developments such as this.”
Ruiyou said this year marked 40 years of diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
