The Erap Highway in Nawaeb, Morobe is undergoing maintenance and patrol grading in the past two weeks.
This road links the lower, middle and upper Erap starting from Mungip village to Lowai.
Member for Nawaeb Theo Pelgen said that the road link was heavily impacted by rainfall and weather patterns lately.
“Nawaeb District Works Unit and the Allied PNG Group were tasked to carry out land scrubbing, line drainage clearance, patrol grading and road alignment with soft spots patching along the road,” Pelgen said.
Pelgen said that other roads such as Sibi-Balawang/Kalawang/Kesigen new cut, Munix-Wawin, Singotogora, Bandong and Erap/Boana will be upgraded soon with the awarding of contracts to local contractors to start shortly.
“I would like to thank the Government for the swift intervention by allocating funds for disaster prone areas such as the Busu Bridge and Ugkwa Creek Bridge reconstructions under Connect PNG Programme,” Pelgen said.
Pelgen emphasised that road infrastructure was a priority of the Government and they would ensure that all funding materialised on the ground.
Pelgen praised Nawaeb chief executive officer Buds Botikie for his foresight in ensuring that funding was allocated in due time to allow work to begin and has continued onwards.
