ANY chance of a suspended sentence of convicted murderer Peter Galasboi has been dashed following his escape from prison.
He was jailed for 15 years for the murder of his wife and during the 18 months he had spent behind bars, Galasboi had escaped.
The court was told that Galasboi had on Nov 8, 2010 during a funeral service at their village in the Usino Bundi area, had called his wife away from the procession to speak with her.
On the way to their house heated words were exchanged and Galasboi landed a blow to the ribs of his wife, the late Joy Apa. She was hospitalised and eventually died.
The court was told that Galasboi, who had served 18 months in jail, was recommended for probation.
Judge David Cannings, who handed down a decision on the sentence yesterday in the absence of Galasboi, said his recent escape showed that he disrespected the court and the law. His 15 years imprisonment would continue
Meanwhile, in a separate case yesterday at the 4-Mile junction Nato Nianbai, 32, was killed in a retaliatory attack.
It has been alleged that some relatives of the late Kone Marcus, a peace officer at the DCA compound, killed Nianbai.
Homicide detectives said Nianbai, from Manswat village in Angoram, East Sepik, had killed peace officer Marcus on June 16 this year.
Despite numerous attempts by police and the community to have him surrender to police, Nianbai remained at large.
Detectives said that he was found drunk by Marcus’ relatives at 4-Mile. They chased him into a dense sago swamp area and chopped off his right leg from the shin and speared his chest with a metal arrow.
