AN escapee from the Boram jail in East Sepik, who had been at large since last year, was arrested on Monday in the Toma-Vunadidir local level government area of Gazelle, East New Britain (ENB).
He was at Rapitok ward one when Rabaul police nabbed him.
According to ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali, David Steven, 32, from Kubalia in Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik and ENB, was convicted for wounding.
He said Steven had been on the run until Rapitok and Vunadidir communities mobilised and called police on Monday when he was arrested.
Chief Insp Tabali said Steven would be charged with escaping from lawful custody. “I want to thank the people of Rapitok and Vunadidir for helping police to report the escapee,” he said.
