THE PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) has been linked with DataCo’s fibre optic cable for a more efficient internet service.
During a small ceremony to mark the occasion, vice-chancellor Prof Aisak Pue said it was a major achievement for the university.
“This is the day we have been waiting for a long time to be able to connect and communicate with the rest of the world with ease,” he said.
“Today, we are witnessing the linking of UNRE to the world through the high-speed information highway facilitated by Dataco and funded by the Department of National Planning and Monitoring and rolled out by Voltran Engineering.”
Prof Pue said the project cost K800,000.
He said the university should be maximising its internet usage now.
