PLANS to reopen the Marienberg Catholic sub-health centre in the Marienberg local level government in Angoram, East Sepik, is well underway.

It was forced to close last September because of some problems between a few community members and staff.

But they have since noticed the hardship people in the area are facing in terms of accessing health services.

The Catholic Health Service is therefore planning to re-open Marienberg sub-health centre.

Two nursing officers, including the sister-in-charge and the village heath volunteer coordinator, have been sent by the provincial Catholic health secretary Sr Celine Yakasere to go and to do a stock-take and find out what is really needed there.

Yakasere said the Catholic health service was willing to provide health services to the people in the area but wanted the people to first respect the health facilities and its staff.

She said health services were important and people must respect those providing them.

The health sub-centre is one of the oldest run by the Catholic shurch in ESP.

More than 20,000 people in Marienberg area and Murik Lakes get health services at the centre.

Yakasere also told The National in Wewak that there were plans to relocate the health centre to a higher ground to avoid being damaged by floods.

The three buildings to be relocated are the patients, outpatients and maternity wards.

Yakasere said despite the situation the catholic health service in ESP will re-open its service at Marinberg.

She said the two officers would report back to them before they start bringing in the necessary supplies to the health centre.
