FOUR church groups in the Turubu local level government in East Sepik have received a total of K25,000 from their LLG president David Kausik.

This follows a commitment Kausik made early this year to assist the churches although the national government had not allocated any funds for the social sector this year.

Mambe Catholic youths settled for the biggest amount with K10,000 while the Evangelical Brotherhood church, Assemblies of God and Revival Centre of PNG all received K5,000 each.

“Churches are playing an important role in instilling good ethics and morals among the communities and I view them as an important partner in the development of Turubu LLG,” he said.

“That is why I have made some sacrifices to access this money with the assistance of Wewak MP Jim Simitab because I want to see a change in the LLG.”

Simitab, who is the Correctional Service Minister, also presented a 2.6 KVA generator valued at K3,700 to the Yamben youth group.

“There is no budgetary allocation for the social sector which includes women, youth and churches this year but how we the national MPs or presidents assist in a smaller way. Please accept it,” he said.

He added that Turubu and Wewak Island LLGs had been disadvantaged for years and he wanted to improve service delivery in them.

Simitab also urged the people to ensure continuity in the leadership especially for the presidents and their ward members because changes will only derail service delivery.

Ward member Anton Winjokom commended Simatab and Kausik for their assistance, adding that the presentation was the first for churches in his area.

“I am deeply humbled by what you have done today. Your assistance will go a long way in rehabilitating our young people. When people are changed spiritually, they will embrace physical service and development,” he said.
