East Sepik Governor Allan Bird, pictured, says education will be the priority of his government this year.
He was speaking during the presentation of the provincial budget of K239 million to Treasurer Charles Abel on Monday.
Bird said the province faced a lot of challenge in education.
He said East Sepik would be spending a lot of time and resources addressing the delivery of better education to its people.
“We have taken steps in the last four weeks, looking at improving the infrastructure, funding for services and results,” Bird said.
“This is one of our focus area we started last year when we were embarking on improving our public service sector.
“We have tried to take ownership about it, rather than blame about it. We are gradually doing that through the gains we are making from our internal revenue collections.
“All we need from the national Government is the functional grants so that we have books in the classrooms and money to pay water and electricity bills.”
