A MAN was killed and several sustained injuries in an ethnic clash near the 9-Mile Plaza in Port Moresby yesterday, police say.
The National Capital District/Central police divisional command said the violence erupted after some youths who had volunteered to clean up the area near the plaza were allegedly attacked by some street vendors.
“Debris strewn about in the fight were set alight and police have persuaded the two warring factions to return to their communities. We are now monitoring the situation closely in case of another flare up of violence,” police said.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the killing.
