SPILLOVER of ethnic clashes between the Waria and Bianghai landowners in Wau, Bulolo, Morobe, have now reached Bulolo town, police say.
Trouble started after the rape of a girl from Bianghai allegedly by men from Waria.
The two groups have had an ongoing issue that created tension and led to fights for some time.
The authorities are taking a hard stance in this issue and are delaying all peace negotiations until all implicated in the fighting are brought to justice.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said the fight has now spilled over to Bulolo town and police were closely monitoring the situation.
“Bulolo experienced break and enter, stealing and vehicles travelling along some of the road links in Bulolo town have been attacked, causing inconveniences to the general public travelling,” Supt N’Drasal said.
He said these were the same people who caused problems in Wau and were doing the same in Bulolo town.
“On Thursday night a shop was broken into at Bulolo and 58 cartons of beer were stolen.
“Police are now working to locate the items and the suspects involved,” he said.
In response, some units in Wau will be relocated to Bulolo town together with some members of the Kerowagi’s Mobile squad 8 who are currently in Wau town, he said.
While in Bulolo, they will also be on the lookout for suspects from the Wau fight and those that had caused tensions in Bulolo, he said.
He said police would arrest those implicated in crimes created in Wau and Bulolo.
