EU adopts new export measures

THE European Commission has adopted a temporary export transparency and export authorisation mechanism on the basis of Regulation 2015/479 on common rules for exports.
The European Union delegation to Papua New Guinea yesterday clarified that this was not an export ban.
In a statement yesterday, the delegation said: “This measure would target exports of the Covid-19 vaccines covered by an advance purchase agreement with the EU.
“These exports will be subject to an early notification and authorisation before they are shipped outside the EU.
“These measure apply from Jan 30 to March 31.”
A large number of exports will be exempted from the mechanism.
“The objective of this measure is to ensure timely access to Covid-19 vaccines for all EU citizens and to tackle the current lack of transparency of vaccine exports outside the EU.”
