IMPROVED infrastructure and equipment in 10 European Union-funded technical vocational schools is expected to boost their enrolments next year, an education official says.
Education Department chief auditor Etwin Apai said the Tvet schools would see numbers increase.
“This will be the result of better and improved infrastructure as well as tools and equipment that EU-funded programme and human resource development programme phase two will bring,” Apai said.
Speaking on behalf of Secretary Dr Uke Kombra at a ground-breaking ceremony at the Bulolo Technical Vocational Training Centre on Wednesday, Apai said Tvet teachers would be trained under the programme.
“Better workshops and other facilities with tools will enhance students’ learning, hence making them technically fit for the field of their expertise,” she said.
Apai said the 10 Tvets were Badili and Morata in NCD, Bulolo and Umi in Morobe, Raval and Kabaira in East New Britain, Kamaliki in Eastern highlands, Yawasaro in East Sepik and Pompabus and Laiagam in Enga.
Meanwhile, National Planning under the National Authorising Office aid coordinator Yvonne Vavine appealed to those schools and stakeholders for co-operation.
“They have to be supportive during the construction phase and ensure all infrastructures and equipments are well taken care of,” she said.
