WORK has started on two new vocational training centres in East New Britain.
Ground-breaking ceremonies were held last week for the Kabaira Vocational Training Centre and Raval Vocational Centre by the European Union and the Education Department.
National Planning Department official Rose Koyama said the human resources development programme under the Education Department was fully funded by the EU. She said more than K37.5 million had been committed to infrastructure development in 10 technical and vocational centres in six provinces.
The 10 institutions are Raval and Kabaira Tvet in East New Britain, Umi and Bulolo Tvet in Morobe, Yawasoro in East Sepik, Badili and Morata Tvet in the National Capital District, Kamaliki Tvet in Eastern Highlands and Laiagam and Pompabus Tvet in Enga.
Koyama said K2.8 million would be spent at Raval and the project would include an administration building, library, IT laboratory, two dormitories, carpentry and joinery workshop, mechanical and trade skills workshop, welding and metal fabrication workshop, water tanks, septic tanks, female ablution block and one male ablution block.
Kabaira has been allocated K7 million.
