PAPUA New Guinea students are being urged to take up scholarships under the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus programme.
Martin Dihm, head of the European Union Delegation in Port Moresby, is also calling on local higher education institutions to explore possibilities for co-operation arrangements with European institutions under this scheme.
“I encourage PNG students to apply for the scholarships. We have seen a lot of interest from countries in the Asia-Pacific region and look forward to a fair number of applications from PNG in 2012,” Dihm said.
“The EU’s Erasmus Mundus is a long-standing programme that helps students from many countries to study in Europe and supports partnerships between higher education institutions.”
He said PNG applicants would be interested in the possibility of applying for scholarships to participate in EU master courses and joint doctorates.
The Erasmus Mundus programme aims to enhance the quality of higher education and promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through mobility and academic cooperation.
The programme is open to higher education institutions and to any organisation active in the field of higher education and research.
It is also open to students, doctoral candidates, teachers, researchers and university staff (academic and/or administrative) from any part of the world.
