Everyone has responsibility to report bullying in schools: Principal

IT is everyone’s responsibility to report bullies in schools, De La Salle Secondary School principal and National Capital District school principals chairman Br Antony Samy Pancras says.
“All must report or discourage such indiscipline or any other disciplinary problem at home or in public,” he said.
Pancras said many were familiar with the most common form of bullying, but graffiti was also considered a form of bullying.
“Students who involved in such vandalism should be warned to stop,” he said.
“Many of them who go out in groups or individually to vandalise school properties or buildings outside of school premises are believed to be in some sort of cult groups. This is a form of bullying that many students, teachers and parents are unaware.”
Pancras said school principals and administrations should introduce tougher rules to put a complete stop to bullying like what De La Salle had done in the last four years.
“De La Salle has been free from all practices associated with bullying, generation systems and traditions,” he said.
“We identified these sort of practices and called a meeting where we talked to students who were caught.
“We also advised their parents that their children would be suspended if they did not stop.
“So parents should help the school to discipline their children.
“Since 2017, the school has not recorded any bullying.”
Education Minister Jimmy Uguro and Teaching Service Commission chairman Samson Wangihomie issued stern warnings last week that bullying should be discouraged in schools nationwide.
Uguro said there was no room for bullying in schools following concerns raised by parents.
