THE Kandep development authority (DDA) has bought an excavator for the construction of a road to link more than 5,000 people in Enga’s Wage local level government (LLG).
The excavator was presented by Kandep MP Alfred Manase and DDA members to the Upper Wage people in Longap village recently.
Thousands of people gathered at the road’s ground breaking ceremony.
K200,000 was also been given to buy fuel and to pay excavator driver.
Manase said the people walked miles every day just to reach bus stops.
He said construction would start at Longap, then to the remotest parts of Peledak, Karekare and Yumbis, bordering Porgera in Enga, and Tari-Pori in Hela.
Manase said construction would link three council wards that had a primary and an elementary schools and two aid posts.
He said another aid post would be built soon.
“Kandep is in the centre of other provinces and districts,” he said.
“We will construct new roads and improve existing roads to link up with other provinces and districts.”
Manase said a backhoe and a dump truck had also been bought for the road work as well as for the upgrading of existing roads.
“All roads in the district will be rehabilitated yearly,” he said.
“We have money for it.
“People need good roads to access basic Government services.”
Manase said many parts of the district were swampy and people needed the DDA’s support to improve roads for socio-economic progress.
He said the Longap, Peledak and Yumbis areas had vast fertile flat land good which was for farming and raising livestock.
He said many people migrated elsewhere due to its remoteness and unavailability of roads.
