EASTERN Highlands’ Ne-esu Kopi and Marita festival committee last week presented a report on the festival along with a pig to the National Cultural Commission (NCC).
NCC senior cultural development officer Bola Noho said the report was a first of its kind for the festival and it provided good feedback and input from the committee.
“The funds to host the festival were given by the Government and that is why such reports must be submitted to the NCC for funding approval of future festivals,” he said.
“For this festival, I am thankful for the feedback, even though, there were minor things that still need to be looked into, it all went well.”
Noho said such festivals were for the people of each clan to showcase, preserve and safeguard their cultures and traditional customs.
Festival chairman Tianumu Enavera said the two-day festival gave villagers the opportunity to showcase their tradition and culture to the public, visitors and tourists.
“The festival was hosted in Okapa’s Kimi village,” he said.
“This year, the festival will be an even bigger show.”
Enavera thanked the NCC and the Government for funding and support for such events that attracted tourists.
