ALL feeder roads in Mendi district, Southern Highlands province will be upgraded.

People in Upper Mendi, Karinz and Lai Valley local level governments (LLG) celebrated the arrival of a new excavator and a vehicle bought by the district administration on Saturday.

Treasury Minister Don Polye and provincial administrator Ungia Kembo witnessed the presentation of the machine and vehicle to district administrator James Embiap by local MP De Kewanu.

Kewanu told the people that they would no longer hire construction companies to work on their feeder roads.

“I bought this machine and vehicle from your money and registered under Mendi district to fix your roads,” he said.

He told the people that he was giving first priority to infrastructure developments such as roads, bridges and electricity.

He said when they had proper and better roads, other services would reach them.

Kewanu said he allocated 40% of the district service improvement programme money on infrastructure alone despite financial instruction from the Office of Rural Development and Implementation that only 30% should be used for infrastructure developments.

He also bought three generators for the three health centres in the local level governments.

He also bought VSat  disks for Mongol Secondary School and district office which would be connected to the internet for the students and district public servants in the district to use.
