Expatriate robbed by armed men

THREE masked men armed with two homemade guns and a bush knife allegedly held up an expatriate in Rabaul town and made off with K66,015 recently, police say.
East New Britain police commander, Snr Insp Joseph Tabali said one of the suspects was pursued by police with the assistance of Malaguna village youths and apprehended but the money was not recovered.
He said the expatriate at the Talina Trading in Rabaul town was held at gun point on Saturday, Aug 13 at 10.20am by the suspects who allegedly stole the money and ran up Tunnel Hill.
The fleeing gang exchanged fire with police and one of them was captured by the mob that pursued them.
The suspect, Joe Wola from Iawakaka village in Balanataman local level government area, was wounded and admitted at the Nonga hospital.
The suspect was discharged and charged with armed robbery with violence.
Tabali appealed to the two suspects on the run to surrender and commended the youths of Malaguna for their assistance saying it was the way forward in apprehending criminals.
