THE Morobe government has set up a working committee to look into disaster affected areas in the province.
Governor Ginson Soanu said since the province was experiencing natural disasters, the committee would liaise with affected communities and authorities. The committee is made up of Huon district chief executive officer Aaron Ambang as chairman, police, provincial disaster office, government agencies and companies.
The committee will check on areas affected by natural disasters to verify claims from the people and assess the damage.
Soanu said the Gabensis flood disaster in the Wampar local level government caused massive destruction and the people needed assistance.
He said Gabensis villagers were facing issues relating to health, income generation and education.
Soanu said natural disasters must be quickly brought to the attention of the provincial disaster office.
Meanwhile, the disaster committee is looking at supplying shelter, food rations and medicine for the affected people.
Provincial disaster officer Charlie Masange said his office would provide whatever they had in stock to the affected people.
