Expo set for SMEs

A SMALL to medium enterprises (SMEs) expo, the first in Lae, on Saturday is to promote the sector in the industrial city.
It will be held at the St Mary’s Primary School at Eriku.
Winifred Worealevi, the owner of the Kalemikh Boutique and Bistro, said: “It is vital for Papua New Guineans to shop locally and buy locally made products to support more of our people venturing into the SME sector.”
Worealevi had tried to promote her business through a market day in April but it turned out that only half the number of people she expected attended.
This had prompted her to organise the expo.
Worealevi realised through a survey she conducted that most vendors and SMEs lacked some important marketing and financial management skills that could make the difference between being a stagnant entrepreneur and developing and evolving a successful one to move to the next stage.
“If people with a passion to develop their own business meet in one place, we could create a platform to market our products and learn from one another,” she said.
“By that I am doing to others what I want them to do to me,” she said.
