ExxonMobil PNG, in partnership with Pacific Sports Media Marketing, supported a sports carnival for Hiri-West schools on Nov 2.
The event — hosted by Papa Primary School in Central — attracted more than 500 students from Roku, Kouderika, Porebada, Boera, Papa, Lealea, Kido, Gorohu and Manumanu.
Papa Primary School head teacher Doriga Kila said the students competed in athletics, touch football and netball.
“We are grateful to ExxonMobil PNG for supporting Papa Primary School host the carnival,” Kila said in a statement.
“We also thank Pacific Sports Media Marketing for providing technical officials and awards for the participants.”
PNG LNG plant operations manager Jagir Baxi said: “ExxonMobil PNG is happy to be involved in the school carnival, as it promotes active lifestyles for young people in the communities near the PNG LNG plant site.”
Pacific Sports Media Marketing, in partnership with ExxonMobil PNG, Central education division and the PNG Sports Foundation, is working to enhance the capacity of sports teachers to implement their physical education lessons for the schools adjacent to the PNG LNG plant — Redscar High, Porebada, Boera, Papa and Lealea primary schools.
The programme uses sports to teach life skills and health education.
