Fair representation needed in PNGDF

Letters

THE Papua New Guinea Defence Force should always be multiregional, not by proportion of population but by equal representation from the four regions.
Right now, there is an imbalance in favour of one region that can be seen in the makeup of troops and recruitments over the years.
The Defence Council consisting of the minister, secretary and commander, are from the same region.
This has never been the case in the past and that is a dangerous trend.
The minister and the secretary were appointed by the government and commander Maj Gen Gilbert Toropo is a hangover from the previous regime.
It is time to replace him with someone from another region.
This would make sure that the Defence Council and the PNGDF is balanced in its representation of our nation.

  • You are talking regionalism, it doesn’t matter, who ever qualifies gets the job, the four of them can be from Southern, NGI Momase or Highlands.

  • This is a national organization, people from all 4 regions must be appointed to take up different leadership positions within the in PNGDF, hence making it a national organization and not a regional organization.
