Online selection causing confusion

Letters

I AM concerned that it is now mid-January and our children who have passed out of grade 12 in 2019 have yet to receive notification of their placing in a tertiary institution.
The online selection system that was recently introduced has affected our children.
Our children are being very quiet and withdrawn, they are kept in suspense, and their behaviours have changed making us parents worried with anxiety and stress.
Our only hope is in the newspapers and we have been buying newspapers every day since the New Year hoping to find our children’s names appearing on the acceptance list for tertiary institutions but there is none so far.
It is already mid-January and some of us parents need time to prepare funds and complete pre-entry documents and do banking before school starts.
What is the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Department and institutions doing?
We now believe the newly introduced computerised system is a mistake for the children in rural areas and for the grade 12 leavers.

Concerned parent,
