THE Fairfax Volleyball Association in the National Capital District had its first masters match of the season on Saturday at the PNG Education Institute sports oval, chairman Nuga Dick said.

Last weekend’s volleyball challenge was the second-last game in the pre-season round of the competition.

Dick said the 14 teams in the competition formed two teams, Port Moresby East and Port Moresby West, to contest the pre-season.

“Team West defeated the Team East two-sets-to-one in the masters match,” Dick said.

He said the pre-season round robin matches would conclude this Saturday.

“We are hoping to have the pre-season finals next weekend,” he said.

“So far, Raukele, Freeway Hoks University and Patriots are strong contenders for the finals.

“I believe these teams will maintain their form in the season proper.

“The two Raukele women’s teams — Gold and Maroons — continue their winning spree since the start of the pre-season and look set to make the playoffs,” Dick said.
