KILLERTON Falcons claimed their second Port Moresby Suburban Rugby League victory with an 18-4 win over Gerehu Capras at the Kone Tigers Oval on Sunday.
The Capras fielded a pack of giants who seemed poised to win, but they were toppled in a tough encounter.
Led by props Jacob Ambe, and Junior Kipalan, the Capras punished the Falcons with a series of bone-jarring tackles, but they failed to turn their opportunities into points.
Young Falcons centre Rudy Gideon, who was elevated to the senior team this season, was in devastating form.
He collected a short pass from prop Pomei Gideon and raced 10m for their opener in the 24th minute. Winger Solo Peter added the extras and the Falcons led 6-0.
Three more opportunities went begging on the left flank when skipper Nelson James switched play from midfield and fed the Falcons backline, but they fumbled possession.
Halfback Salvador Raphael played a starring role for the Capras, setting up their big forwards, but the Falcons refused to budge until the break.
When play resumed, winger Peter collected a loose ball in the 38th minute and sprinted 90m before grounding it under the posts. Rudy kicked the extras again and the Falcons extended their lead to 12-0.
Pomei then barged through a gap in the 47th minute and offloaded to Falcons prop Tony Fox, but he was immediately swamped by Capras defenders.
The Capras later spilled the ball inside their 10m and Falcons No.6 Lavai James gathered possession before he ran unopposed to the tryline.
The Capras were unhappy about the refereeā€™s ruling, but they accepted it when he explained the rules and his decision.
The Capras then re-grouped and after applying pressure on the opposition, winger Nigel Kida opened their account in the 54th minute.
It was Raphael who threw a long pass in a slick backline move, creating space for Kida to cross over for an unconverted try.
Desperate to peg back the Falcons, the Capras stepped up their attack, but they ran out of time.
