THREE Lihir Islanders working in Australian mines and their families have donated medical equipment  valued at K4,368 to the Palie Health Centre in Lihir, New Ireland.

The three are plant operators Michael Tesien and Samson Sembar and mining engineer George Winaulin, who are working at mines in Darwin, Perth and Kalgoorlie.

The donations included two wheelchairs, two weighing scales, two blood pressure machines, a nebulizer, four first aid kits and two glucometers.

Palie Health Centre is a Catholic church-run institution.

Tesien, who was on break, presented the items to sister-in-charge Sophie Alip on behalf of his two colleagues and their families.

“We are ready to help the health centre in whatever way to ensure it provides the necessary health services to the people,” Tesien said.

He said they would provide more help to the health centre in future.

Sr Alip said: “The donations will greatly assist in meeting the medical needs of the local population.”

Palie Health Centre and the Lihir Medical Centre were the only facilities in the Nimamar LLG.
