The Coffee Industry Corporation office in Maprik, East Sepik, has done well to help farmers in the Central Sepik region with their sales, an expert says.

Farmer training extension officer, Benjamin Kasito said an organised sale of parchment coffee was done through the CIC’s cluster-group-marketing-concept that started in 2006.

Since then, the farmers have sold 1,487 bags of parchment.

Kasitos said since then 45 small groups had been formed in Maprik to organise and sell their coffee parchment.

“There were three coffee sales last year which included sale numbers 16, 17 and 18 in which sales 16 and 17 farmers received their money from parchment coffee sold at a rate of K2.70 and K2.95 per kg respectively,” he said.

He said groups in Maprik sold 1487 bags from 2006 to 2013.

“From these sales, the farmers received  K267,792.53,” he said.

The CIC is assisting them.
