THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) this week introduced the Baimuru Basketball Association as its newest affiliate in the 2021 calendar with the Gulf-based association now joining the national body.
The BFPNG executives in a statement welcomed the inclusion of the Baimuru association with the governing body presenting new basketballs to the association on Sunday.
“BFPNG welcomes Baimuru Basketball Association as our latest affiliate into the 2021 season,” BFPNG said.
“On hand to receive their Molten basketballs from BFPNG was Baimuru Police Station commander Sgt Hape Pipi, who is also the president of Baimuru basketball association.
“Presenting the balls on behalf of BFPNG were Hoops for Health (H4H) coordinator Jordan Sere and programme partner David Valentine.
Valentine was also present during a joint skills and drills Mamba day camp on Sunday.
“We are proud of the effects our Basketball For Good programmes on our communities.
“Basketball is a way for all of us to come together as one and have fun.
“We will continue to reach as many people as possible this year.”
BFPNG conducts the Hoops 4 Health programme which comes under Fiba’s International Basketball Foundation, Basketball for Good project and AusAid’s Hoops 4 Health programme.
The programme carries out clinics with H4H co-ordinators and volunteer community coaches.
The programme was recently rolled out to suburbs in Port Moresby with new initiatives like inter-suburb challenges that were organised to encourage healthy life styles while at the same time promoting peace and unity.
