Female youth worker faces stealing charges

A FEMALE employee of the National Youth Commission has been charged with conspiracy and dishonesty for allegedly using K50,000 belonging to her employer.
She is appearing for further mention before Port Moresby’s Waigani Committal Court principal magistrate Cosmas Bidar on Oct 3.
Police allege that Theresa Tabel, 55, from Tulu village in Lorengau, Manus, conspired with former PNG Youth Commissioner Johnson Hebe by filling out false requisition form for K50, 000 on cheque number 091536, from the National Youth Commission’s Operational account, No. 1000584923.
Hebe also faces similar charges and will also appear before the court on Oct 3.
Only Tabel appeared before magistrate Bidar yesterday for mention one count of conspiracy and dishonesty, for mention on one count each of conspiracy and dishonesty.
Police alleged that Tabel, who was the commission’s director corporate services, on March 19 this year dishonestly applied for K50,000 for her own use with intention to defraud the commission.
The complainant was acting Youth Commissioner Luio Norit.
The complainant said when he took over the office from Hebe, he realised that a certain payment had been made by the commission to Robert Mai and Company Lawyers.
Police said Tabel, while being employer of the commission.
 by the commission as its corporate services director, processed a payment of K50,000 for legal services to the law firm in Port Moresby.
Mai said there were no legal services rendered for and on behalf of the National Youth Commission.
Tabel is on K2,000 bail and Hebe for K1,000.
